Inherent Intelligibility

DEFINITION -> INHERENT INTELLIGIBILITY is the natural, unlearned comprehension of another language that is possible without any exposure to the other variety. This understanding is possible because of linguistic similarities. For example, American English speakers understand Australian English simply because it shares features of their speech.
